Airsoft Guns: Basic Rules of Play and Safety Procedures

airsoft gun

Airsoft is a game in which participants simulate military combat situations with replica guns. The most popular type of gun used for this purpose is the spring-powered airsoft rifle, which shoots 6mm plastic pellets at a muzzle velocity of 340–380 feet per second.

Airsoft guns fire projectiles using compressed air. These projectiles are made of plastic or metal, which is why they can be used in a game without any danger to participants. They are much lighter than the metal pellets used in paintball and BB guns, so they lack the force necessary to cause significant injury.

Popular Guns of Modern Society

These weapons are often available with customizable parts like sights and grips, which makes them popular with gun hobbyists who want to build their own custom rifle or pistol. Since they release low-velocity rounds, these weapons can also be used as training tools for other firearms as well as military and law enforcement personnel.

They are not real guns and should not be mistaken as such. That being said, they can still cause injury to the eye or even members of one's own team if misused incorrectly or mishandled during play.

Realistic Looking Replicas of Real Firearms

Choose your weapon and get ready for a night of high intensity action with these guns. Its features vary depending on the brand you purchase, but typically include a high capacity magazine, an adjustable stock, and a working safety switch.

Popular airsoft guns are typically powered by gas or spring-powered cartridges. The gas powered guns can shoot long distances while the spring-powered guns have higher rates of fire. Be sure that these are legal where you live before purchasing.

These guns are realistic looking replicas of actual firearms. The exterior features the same basic features as its firearm counterpart, including a collapsible stock, a removable magazine and shells, and adjustable sights. Most even have a working safety feature, though it doesn't actually affect the shot.

To simulate recoil when firing an airsoft, manufacturers use spring-powered mechanisms to eject plastic balls rather than using actual bullets. The balls are shot at velocities that can reach approximately 20 feet per second, depending on the type of gun you choose.

Playing Airsoft: Basic Rules

To protect yourself from getting hurt, you must understand how these airsoft guns work and how to use them properly during play. Many problems encountered when playing airsoft could be avoided by knowing what to expect before you begin playing.

There are some basic rules that you should abide by when playing airsoft. Failure to follow these basic rules can lead to serious injury or even death.

  • Understand the Circumstances

First and foremost, you must never, under any circumstances, use a gun in violation of any laws of the United States. A federal crime has been committed if your state does not explicitly allow it. Playing airsoft brings up issues related to federal law, so only US citizens are allowed to play these games.

  • Gun Handling

The other important rule is that you must always have your gun unloaded before handing over the gun for another player's use. As a gun owner, you are responsible for any damages or injuries that may result from a player's negligent and reckless handling of the airsoft guns.

As such, be sure to follow these guidelines when it comes to handing over your airsoft rifle or pistol to another person:

  • Always show the rifle or pistol in a safe direction. Don't point it down the barrel at anyone; instead point it away from your body and keep your finger off the trigger so no one else will trip over it.
  • Take care not to let someone else touch any sensitive parts of the gun as they take possession of it (this includes internal gears).
  • If a person is going to take possession of your gun, have them shoulder it first so they can properly aim the rifle or pistol; be sure to tell the player not to pull the trigger as they are doing so!
  • Never hand over your gun with an attached magazine in it as that can cause serious harm if the person handles your gun carelessly.

Safety Practices for Airsoft!

Lastly, remember to always follow these safe practices when handling airsoft guns, rifles and pistols:

1) Do not point an airsoft weapon at any person, loaded or unloaded.

- Never aim an unloaded gun at another person.

- Never point an airsoft at your own body.

- Never "dry fire" an airsoft at another person, even if it is unloaded.

2) Always ensure that the gun is unloaded if you are handing it over to another player for their use.

- Do not hand over the rifle or pistol until after you have made sure that it is unloaded.

- If you are handing over an airsoft rifle, make sure the bolt is forward in open position and there is no magazine inserted in the rifle before you hand over the weapon to another player.
